File Checker (L4 Qualified)

Role Description:

True Potential Wealth Management is seeking a Level 4 qualified File Checker to join our compliance team. The role involves reviewing client files to ensure that they meet the regulatory standards set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and internal suitability standards.  Candidates will ideally have previous file checking experience however wider industry experience would be acceptable as comprehensive training will be provided on our internal standards.

The successful candidate will join an existing team of file checkers overseeing c. 1,100 financial advisers using our bespoke back office system to review files and provide feedback to advisers.  Further relevant qualifications will be paid for by the firm with support from external training companies and there is potential future progression into an employed paraplanning or adviser role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

File Review and Analysis:

  • Conduct thorough reviews of client files to ensure compliance with FCA regulations and internal advice standards.
  • Evaluate client suitability assessments undertaken by advisers, suitability reports and other supporting documentation against relevant policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all documents are accurate, complete, and meet the required standards for ongoing monitoring and reporting.
  • Identify potential risks and breaches in compliance and escalate them appropriately to the Compliance Manager.
  • Provide regular feedback to the compliance team regarding trends, potential issues, or improvements in file documentation.

 

Collaboration and Communication

  • Provide comprehensive and clear feedback to advisers on cases being assessed.
  • Assist in training and educating advisers on how to correct errors to ensure files are suitable.
  • Respond to queries from internal teams and advisers regarding compliance and provide guidance on best practices.

Ideal Candidate:

Qualifications and Experience:

Level 4 Qualification:

  • Must have a minimum of a Level 4 qualification (e.g., Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning or equivalent)

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a compliance or file-checking role within an FCA-regulated financial services firm would be preferred.
  • Experience working with client files in areas such as financial advice, pensions, investments, and insurance.

 

Technical Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of FCA regulations and suitable advice standards.
  • Knowledge of financial products, client suitability, and the financial advice process.

 

Attention to Detail:

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in reviewing complex client files and documents.
  • Ability to identify discrepancies, gaps, and areas of concern in client files and documentation.
