On-screen written exams

What is an on-screen written exam?

The CII use on-screen written exams for the R06 Financial planning practice unit, as well as most of the written AF exam papers. The on-screen format involves typing your answers into text boxes on a screen. Supplementary information and tax tables are also provided on the screen. There is even an on-screen calculator, although you are permitted to use your own physical non-programmable calculator, if you prefer.

On-screen written exams can be sat in a test centre or remotely. It is worth noting that there are a finite number of remote sittings available for each exam.

How can I prepare for an on-screen written exam?

It is worthwhile preparing yourself for the exam sitting experience in advance. Being familiar with the system you will be using will help you to focus on performing at your best, and make it easier to deal with any systems issues you may face.

The CII have released an exam familiarisation demo which allows you to preview the platform to give an idea of how to navigate the system. You can try out the functionality, including the on-screen calculator. It shows an example of an AF paper, but the system used for the R06 is the same.
