Passing your exams is a significant accomplishment, we should know because we have helped thousands of learners pass exams over the years! But it’s just the first step on your journey to becoming a successful financial adviser.
Have a look at this article below from the St James’s Place Financial Adviser Academy, which describes their Academy training process and how you can utilise your hard-won Diploma.
True success in this role requires more than technical knowledge – it’s about mastering the practical skills, confidence, and expertise needed to thrive in a client-facing career.
Think of it like passing your theory driving test: you wouldn’t jump straight into driving on your own without first practising with an instructor. That’s exactly where the St. James’s Place (SJP) Financial Adviser Academy comes in.
Our structured, fully-funded Academy programme is designed to do more than help you achieve qualifications—it’s here to equip you with the tools to build a flourishing career in financial advice. Whether you’re brand new to the profession or already qualified, the Academy supports you at every stage of your development.

Term 2 is a transformative nine-week phase designed to build your confidence, enhance your technical skills, and equip you with the practical expertise needed to deliver outstanding financial advice. It’s all about turning the theoretical knowledge from your Diploma into real-world proficiency.
In this phase, you’ll engage in interactive training sessions, including role-play scenarios that simulate client meetings, helping you learn how to tailor advice to meet diverse client needs. This structured, hands-on approach takes place in a supportive environment where you can refine your skills and gain confidence in the classroom before applying them in real-world settings
You’ll master the client advice process, from understanding client needs to providing bespoke, actionable advice. Training is delivered through a blend of in-person sessions and virtual workshops, allowing you to learn collaboratively and share insights with your peers. Observational opportunities with established advisers will also provide invaluable insight into best practices and strategies for success in the field.
Throughout Term 2, you’ll have access to dedicated 1:1 support from both your Academy Training Manager and Academy Relationship Manager, ensuring personalised guidance tailored to your unique journey.
By the end of Term 2, you’ll have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to progress seamlessly to Term 3, ready to take your next steps as a financial adviser.
Term 3 marks a crucial stage in your journey as you work towards Competent Adviser Status (CAS) – a major milestone where you’ll begin meeting clients and applying your knowledge in real-world settings. This phase focuses on refining your skills through hands-on coaching, live observations, and mastering advanced advisory techniques.
You’ll benefit from live, in-field coaching with your dedicated Academy Development Manager, who will provide tailored guidance to help you continually improve. Client meeting observations will offer real-time feedback, ensuring you develop the confidence and expertise to navigate client interactions successfully. In-person workshops will equip you to handle complex client scenarios with professionalism and finesse, further honing your advisory approach.
For those who joined at Term 1, this phase also includes completing your Level 4 Diploma by successfully passing the R06 exam, a critical step in your qualification journey.
Your journey in Term 3 will vary depending on your career path:
On average, Term 3 lasts 12 months, culminating in three key achievements: passing your R06 exam, attaining Competent Adviser Status (CAS), and obtaining your Statement of Professional Standing (SPS) from the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).
By the end of this phase, you’ll be fully qualified and equipped to thrive as a professional financial adviser, ready to build a successful and rewarding career.
After achieving Competent Adviser Status (CAS), Term 4 focuses on equipping you with the tools and expertise to build a sustainable business within the St. James’s Place (SJP) Partnership.
