At Bespoke Training Solutions (BTS), we guide aspiring financial advisers through the CII Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning—a key milestone for entering the profession. Although it’s not the only route in. A recent podcast from St. James’s Place (SJP) offers valuable insights into the three main qualification routes to achieving this RDR-compliant diploma, making it a must-listen for anyone considering a career in financial advice.
It’s a fantastic watch, so check it out here.
In the episode, Lewis Prosser, Head of Professional Development and Scott Stevens, Establishment Commercial Director from SJP break down the three awarding bodies that offer a compliant Level 4 Diploma: The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), The London Institute of Banking & Finance (LIBF), and The Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI).
Each route has its own structure and appeal:
CII: A structured path with six exams, including five multiple-choice and one written exam.
LIBF: Also six units, but with a coursework-based final unit—ideal for more reflective or visual learners.
CISI: The most flexible, requiring just three multiple-choice exams that can be taken at home.
The podcast also discusses study time commitments (roughly 60–80 hours per module), the importance of choosing the right support provider (like BTS!), and how learners can tailor their journey with flexible resources and training workshops.
Listeners will find reassurance in the hosts’ message: financial advice is more about people than complex maths. They also discuss career progression beyond the Diploma, including Chartered and Fellowship status, and the growing demand for younger advisers.
If you’re just starting out or nearing the end of your qualification journey, this podcast offers clarity, motivation, and a glimpse into the rewarding opportunities ahead—especially through joining the SJP Academy.
The SJP Academy values learners who are already taking initiative, investing in their development, and preparing for a client-facing role. If you’re doing that with BTS, you’re already on the right track.
