There’s no better way than hearing about something, than from those that really know. Caitlin, Carly and Harvey, share exactly what it’s like in the early months of being on the True Potential Academy.
“To help jumpstart my career in finance, the opportunity arose for me to join onto the True Potential Academy, which has carved the path for me to reach my goal of becoming a financial advisor.
The academy structure is really good, with a clear path in how I was to begin studying and stay on track. At the beginning of each unit (there are six in total), you receive details of the training sessions, study materials and a voucher to book the exams on a date that works for the diary.
This enabled me to plan my study time and acted as a guide of where I needed to be in terms of my progression within the units. I would highly recommend, if possible, for everyone to attend the biweekly webinars as this helped bring the content on the page to life.
The training received for studies is delivered by Bespoke Training Solutions (BTS) and I feel really lucky to have had time with their trainers. From the beginning it was clear they have a mountain of knowledge and experience in the industry, which boosted my confidence in being able to ask questions and I could rely on BTS if there were any areas I was struggling with.
The academy structure also allow for True Potential colleagues to work as part of a team. The friendly atmosphere in the bi-weekly webinar sessions and workshops days, meant that as a group, we were not afraid to share our thoughts, (even if they were wrong and started a debate!) which really helped cement areas I or my colleagues were not 100% on.
Being part of the True Potential Academy has given me confidence in learning and how to go about that learning so that it doesn’t feel as daunting. It has also enhanced my knowledge, which of course has made a real difference to me in achieving my goal of becoming a financial adviser.”
“I joined the True Potential Academy in August 2023 and my experience has been second to none. I found the regular webinars really helpful to keep me on track with my studies. It’s great to attend and ask questions about elements of the learning that are trickier to grasp.
Being part of a study group with others learning the same is also really helpful and I’ve never felt that I ask ‘silly questions’. The trainers from BTS make us feel so comfortable within the sessions and ensure that we are all fully engaged throughout.
Attending the diarised sessions helped even if I didn’t know the answers to questions – in fact, especially if I didn’t know the answers! I definitely feel like I learn the most by getting the answers wrong at times and I was also made to feel comfortable in doing so.
The workshop days at the end of a unit are brilliant and although quite full on, they set us up for our exams really nicely. Thankfully, I managed to pass both R05 and R01 first time and I believe this was mainly due to what we covered in the workshops, with sitting the exams in the days immediately after.
The material provided is also fantastic. I learn best with more interactive training so the e-Learning worked better for me that the study guides, but all of it was brilliant and really informative.”
“The True Potential Academy has helped me massively in the lead up to my exams. The structure is very supportive and helps me to test my knowledge and track my progress through the different learning objectives.
The bi-weekly trainer-led sessions help to keep me on track with my reading and provides a useful space to apply the knowledge that I’ve read. These sessions are also a nice place to discuss different exam style questions and the different tricks you can use to help narrow down an answer even if you aren’t 100% certain.
The workshop days towards the end are another really useful tool. This is a much more in depth, full day (or days), that provides a space to discuss areas of uncertainty in much more detail. Similar to the shorter bi-weekly sessions, there are practice questions that we run through throughout the day.
Without the support of the academy and the trainers I doubt I would have passed my first exam. As someone who has no prior knowledge of the industry the academy has massively helped me to pass my exams with ease.”
